About Daily Language Quest

Daily Language Quest is a ten-word meaning game spanning languages from around the world. Each card combines a word, language and origin label, pronunciation guide, optional spoken playback, a dynamic symbol-based visual hint, four meanings, and a usage note revealed after the answer.

How to play

  • Read the word, its language, and the written pronunciation before examining the four English meanings.
  • Use Hear pronunciation for browser speech playback or spend 5 gems on the visual hint when the spelling alone is not enough.
  • Choose the closest meaning, then study the usage sentence and any available background note.
  • Complete all ten words; a score of seven or more counts as a successful daily quest.

Controls and rules

  • Tap or click one of four meaning cards, then use Submit answer to lock in the choice. The correct card is shown after submission.
  • Hear pronunciation prioritizes natural, neural, enhanced, and online voices that match the language when the browser provides them. Slow mode offers a more deliberate replay.
  • Reveal visual hint shows a meaning-aware group of symbols and a short nudge; it also reveals automatically after an answer.
  • Next word advances through the set, and Replay today's set restarts the same ten words after the result.

Tips

  • Say the written pronunciation once before using audio; actively predicting the sound makes the playback more memorable.
  • Look for familiar roots, but check them against the language label before trusting a resemblance because false friends can point to the wrong meaning.
  • Use the visual symbols to identify a broad category such as person, place, food, feeling, or action, then eliminate options outside that category.
  • After answering, read the usage line rather than memorizing a bare translation. A situation gives the word a stronger recall cue.
  • Replay uses the same daily set, so it is useful for retrieval practice rather than for generating a second score from unseen words.

Scoring and objective

Each correct meaning adds one point, for a ten-point maximum. Seven correct answers is the daily success threshold. Pronunciation playback and time do not change the score; a visual hint costs 5 gems but does not change correctness.

FAQ

Why does the spoken pronunciation vary by device?

Playback uses speech-synthesis voices available through your browser or operating system. The game prioritizes natural and neural voices in the matching language, but accent and voice quality still depend on the voices available on the device.

Does using the visual hint reduce my Language Quest score?

No. The hint costs 5 gems and reveals a supporting symbol scene and guidance line, while scoring remains one point for each correct meaning.

How many words are in the daily set?

Ten. Each word has four meaning choices, a pronunciation control, and a usage note after selection.

Is Daily Language Quest a full language course?

No. It is a vocabulary-recognition game designed to introduce individual words and contexts, not teach grammar, writing, or conversational fluency.
